Looking for a simple and scrumptious meal that’s packed with protein and fibre? A meal that will keep you full all morning long? Tom’s Homemade Raw Unsweetened Muesli recipe is quick and easy to make (just under 5 minutes). You don’t have to be exact with your ingredients, just add as much or as little of the ingredients as you like. Muesli is comprised of oats, seeds, nuts, and dried fruit. It often has wheat but we leave it out. Do you want to know the difference between muesli and granola? Well, it comes down to the fact that granola is cooked, and muesli is raw! It was invented in Switzerland and is now a staple breakfast all over the world.  One of the best parts of muesli is you can customize it to your taste and dietary needs.

Ingredients:

Oat flakes

Oat groats (whole or steel cut) -If you like it chewier

Millet

Quinoa

Pumpkin seeds

Almonds

Mulberries -Dried

Prunes – 2 or 3 on top

Yogurt, kefir or milk (Dairy or dairy-free)

How To Make Muesli

Just add all your dry ingredients into one large bowl and mix together. You don’t have to worry about the amounts, just use what works best for you.

If you prefer your muesli on the softer side, you can soak it in yogurt or kefir for a few hours, or even overnight in the fridge. Did you know that soaking oats or grains helps the absorption of minerals like calcium and magnesium? Soaking grains and nuts help to break down phytic acid that is contained in the very outer layers. Phytic acid blocks the absorption of many vital nutrients and once it is broken down it allows for better absorption of these nutrients.

To finish off your muesli, add chopped banana, strawberries, blueberries, or peach. Try different fruits each time to find your favourite mix.

To get a little more creative with flavour, try adding some cinnamon or nutmeg to the dry ingredients. You can also add a dash of vanilla to your yogurt or kefir!
