Organically grown kiwi fruit is healthier than conventionally grown kiwi fruit, report American researchers. Their study compared kiwi fruit grown on the same soil type and environmental conditions, and adds to an ongoing debate on the nutritional superiority of organically grown foods. The study authors report that vitamin C levels were slightly higher in the organic fruit during storage at zero degrees Celsius, but not when stored at a higher temperature for seven days. The organic fruit also had more antioxidant activity. "All the main mineral constituents were more concentrated in the organic kiwifruits, which also had higher ascorbic acid and total phenolic contents, resulting in a higher antioxidant activity," concluded the researchers.
