Product Description

Ascenta’s unique green tea antioxidant makes NutraSea products the most stable and freshest tasting on the market. Research trials found Ascenta’s green tea antioxidant to be 40 % more effective than the leading fish oil antioxidant and 100% more effective than the synthetic antioxidant BHT.

Children need omega-3, omega-6, and vitamin D. Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) also known as the “good fats”. Like vitamins and minerals, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids must be supplied by our diet as they are not produced by our bodies. EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) & DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are the only biologically active forms of omega-3 and play an important role in childhood growth and development including eyes, brain, nervous system and learning. EPA and DHA are often deficient in the diet of all age groups.

Omega-6 fats are typically plentiful in the diet. The specific omega-6 called GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) has been scientifically proven to be beneficial for early childhood development. When taken alone GLA offers little benefit, however when combined with adequate intake of EPA the beneficial properties of GLA are enhanced. Vitamin D3 is an important pro-hormone responsible for many regulatory functions in the body including bone mineralization, immune system function, and gene expression.

Sunlight is the primary source of vitamin D. Factors that limit sun exposure, including the use of sunscreen, contribute to vitamin D deficiencies. Numerous population studies have found that up to 40% of people from children to seniors are deficient in vitamin D throughout the year, even during summer months. There are two biologically active forms of Vitamin D: D3 (cholecalciferol) and D2 (ergocalciferol). Vitamin D3 is produced in the skin when exposed to sunlight. Vitamin D2 can be derived from several plant sources such as mushrooms; however it is biologically less potent than vitamin D3.

Superior quality
The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) fish oil monograph has become the international standard for quality fish oils. Ascenta’s omega-3 fish oils exceed the CRN quality and purity standards.

Manufacturing Assurance
Ascenta products are produced under Good Manufacturing Practices. Our modern manufacturing facility is licensed and audited by the Natural Health Products Directorate and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Volatile Compounds
The oxidation (breakdown) of omega-3 oils is a complex process that occurs in many stages. Volatile Compounds (VC) are an important marker of oil quality. The formation of VCs in omega-3 oils results in an unpleasant taste and smell, a common characteristic of most fish oil supplements. Through the use of sophisticated processing methods and proprietary antioxidants, Ascenta’s oils have the lowest levels of VCs resulting in a pleasant fresh taste and smell throughout its shelf life.

Triglycerides
Natural fish oils are comprised of molecules called triglycerides (TG), however most concentrated fish oils are converted into an alternate form called an ethyl ester (EE) used as an inexpensive way to concentrate the oil. Natural TG fish oils have three fatty acids linked to a glycerol backbone whereas EE fish oils have one fatty acid linked to one molecule of ethanol (alcohol). A number of studies have demonstrated that TG fish oils are more stable and absorbed 2–3 times better than their EE counterpart. All Ascenta products are in a natural triglyceride form.
