OptiFer: Quick Iron Facts
- There are 2 types of iron supplements
- Heme iron which is derived from meat and poultry
- Non-heme iron from vegetables, dairy and chemically bonded
- Your body prefers Heme Iron
- Heme iron is the preferred iron source which is absorbed more efficiently
- Non-heme iron needs to be broken down and converted to a usable form of iron. This process tends to leave free iron ions causing gastrointestinal side effects such as constipation, diarrhea and stomach cramps
- Heme iron has been used for more than 20 years
- No serious side effects or iron poising’s ever reported from over millions of users
- Heme iron will be absorbed in almost any situation
- Non-heme iron absorption is often effected by food, drinks such as coffee, tea and other medications
- Absorption of heme iron starts at the beginning of the intestine. This is especially beneficial for people with short gut
- There is no substitute for Iron
- Iron is used by your body to form red blood cells
- Red blood cells help transport oxygen throughout the body
- It takes time to replenish your iron stores takes
- This process can take a few months
- People with ongoing blood loss which cannot be corrected (such as heavy menstrual periods) may need to continue taking iron supplements indefinitely.

My iron-deficiency anemia was exacerbated during my pregnancy and my OB recommended I buy Optifer iron pills for supplementation. Couldn’t find it in our usual retail stores so googled and found FeelGood natural health stores carried it. First delivery was prompt and package was nice and secure. Didn’t experience any of the typical iron supplements-related complaints usually voiced, which was great. I’ve continued to order Optifer during my pregnancy and will continue to do so postpartum. Highly recommended buy!

I’m very pleased with this product. I tried samples from my gastroenterologist, as I live with pancolitis/ulcerative colitis and not able to break down or tolerate iron supplements without pain. These have improved my iron levels and I haven’t had a single issue with them (I have very sensitive GI tract). Highly recommend!

This product was recommended to me through an internal medicine specialist, because my iron levels were so low. After two days of taking it, I already started to feel better. I let my family know, who also suffer with anemia .. They love it too! After years of using Eurofer, Palafer and a host of other products, this one is far superior. We couldn’t recommend this more highly.

Other iron supplements have caused me horrendous GI pain (especially non-heme) but not so with OptiFer Alpha, easily tolerated and very effective. Has less undesirable ingredients compared to other brands as well. I use it for low iron and also taken with meals, along with some natural vitamin C, it helps with my dietary nickel intolerance. It’s a keeper.
