Product Description

All Natural Lubrication for Women. Natural lubrication is important at any age, especially after hormonal changes related to menstruation, breast-feeding, hysterectomy, chemotherapy and menopause.

Mae by Damiva is an all-natural, hormone-free vaginal lubricant with an optimal pH of 3.7. Mae is Health Canada compliant and contains no animal-derived products. Patent pending.

Let’s Talk About Mae

1) Is Mae by Damiva really all-natural?

Yes, Mae is indeed entirely comprised of ingredients that are natural, edible and environmentally sustainable. Like you, we at Damiva are label readers and there’s nothing that gets our goat more than products that claim to be all-natural and are not. Especially products important for our well-being.

Cocoa butter is used to make chocolate, sucrose is sugar, kokum butter is from the mangosteen fruit and sea buckthorn is a berry. Mae also contains vitamin E and hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring carbohydrate. Vitamin E (tocopherol) acts as a preservative and is often used in food products, such as organic cereals, to preserve freshness. An average adult has about 15 grams of hyaluronic acid in their body. There are no other ingredients in Mae and no hidden chemicals labelled simply as “preservatives.”

All of the natural ingredients in Mae are rated as low hazard, either 0 or 1, by the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) Skin Deep Cosmetics Database (0 to 2 represents a low hazard). With scientific and pharmaceutical backgrounds, Damiva’s team is committed to developing completely natural premium products that are low hazard, high-quality, and don’t need to have a long list of confusing, toxic ingredients.

2) Who should use Mae by Damiva?

Women who desire or need a natural alternative to water-based and other lubricants and creams that contain hormones or irritating, toxic or allergy-inducing chemicals and ingredients. In particular, women who need long-term lubrication due to hormonal changes may benefit from Mae’s unique formulation.

3) How is Mae by Damiva different than other lubricants?

Mae is natural, vegan and free of waxes, including animal waxes such as beeswax, animal testing, fragrance, chemical stabilizers and preservatives such as parabens and phthalates. Mae has a natural scent that comes from the cocoa butter.

Many vaginal lubricants contain the preservative methylparaben, rated a moderate hazard of 4 by EWG, and shown to be linked to hormone disruption and breast abnormal cell. Methylparabens, and parabens in general, are increasingly a concern as various studies from the Center for Disease Control and EWG demonstrate that nearly all urine and breast tumour samples tested in different populations have methylparabens. See The Human Toxome Project for more information. Mae does not contain methylparaben or any potentially harmful chemicals.

Mae is formulated to an optimal pH of 3.7. During reproductive age, the vaginal pH is between 3.5 and 4.5. After menopause, the pH can rise to 7 or 8 resulting in dryness and bacterial growth and odour.

Mae is a solid, oil-based lubricant paste that dissolves and is absorbed instantly upon contact. This bypasses the messy lubrication experienced with water and other oil-based products. The butter base enables longer-term lubrication than most other lubricants. This allows the product to be used well in advance of intercourse and one ovule can provide lubrication for 1 to 3 days.

4) Does Mae contain any natural plant hormones, such as wild yam?

Mae does not contain any ingredients, such as plant extracts, that contain hormones. Wild yam is often used in natural vaginal solutions. Wild yam is a source of diosgenin, a raw ingredient for progesterone, however diosgenin cannot be converted to progesterone in the human body. See Natural Health Guide to Wild Yam for more information.

5) What precautions should I be aware of with Mae?

Mae can be used with polyurethane, polyisopropene and natural (lambskin) condoms. Mae is not compatible with latex condoms as the oils can degrade the latex.

Do not use Mae if you are pregnant, menstruating, have vaginitis or other vaginal conditions.

6) Why is Mae ideally suited for long-term use?

Mae’s emollient butters and lack of chemicals provide an excellent method of naturally restoring vaginal moisture over the long-term, without build-up of hormones or toxicity from chemicals and preservatives.

7) What are the causes of vaginal dryness?

Vaginal dryness, painful intercourse and feminine odour can result from hormonal changes such as breast-feeding, menstruation, abnormal cell therapy and menopause. Vaginal dryness can affect up to 85% of women after menopause, causing as many as 40% of women to experience pain during intercourse (Source: Huang et al, Menopause, January 2010).

    Hello,
The package recommends using at night before sleep. I would imagine that it would take more than 3 hours to dissolve. Each oval should last 1-3 days.
    I hope this helps.
