A sunny day begs for celebration in the form of a frozen drink. We created this version of the classic margarita that uses kombucha instead of a mix. This means no sugar, plus the health benefits of the fermented beverage. Don your sombrero and give it try — with alcohol or virgin; we’ve included both.
Frozen Kombucha Margarita
Ingredients
1 bottle of Gingeraid kombucha. (We used this one.) (You could use an original-flavored kombucha and add 1/2 teaspoon of fresh ginger.)
1/4 cup of lime juice from 6 fresh limes (You can also use a premade organic lime juice.)
24 ice cubes from a regular-sized ice-cube tray.
1 teaspoon of maple syrup or agave nectar
Two limes cut into slices to garnish
Optional: Sea salt for the rim of the glass
For alcoholic version: 1/4 cup of organic tequila to taste. (We used 4 Copas tequila.)
For mocktail version: 1/4 cup of coconut water
Instructions
- Frozen Margarita: Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until you get an icy consistency.
- Pour into a glass.
- Garnish with a lime.
- On the Rocks: Blend kombucha, lime juice, tequila/coconut water, and maple syrup.
- Add 3 cubes of ice to your favorite glass and pour the blended mix over the ice.
- Garnish with a lime.
