Pleiotropic: producing more than one effect.

You are likely familiar with turmeric as a main spice in curry powder and for its common use in preparing various culinary dishes for its colour and flavour. It is a member of the ginger family and has been harvested for more than 5,000 years throughout India, China, Indonesia, and other tropical countries. It plays an important role in both Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Systems of medicine where it is revered for its use as an anti-inflammatory agent in conditions such as depression, digestive upset, liver trouble, menstrual challenges, and heart ailments.

What you may be less familiar with are the health promoting benefits of the specialized compound Curcumin that gives turmeric its distinguishable yellow pigment. Identified by Harvard scientists in 1815, it was not until the 1970s that curcumin became more intensely investigated for its unique properties. The therapeutic properties of curcumin include anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, cholesterol-lowering, anti-tumour and anti-diabetic actions.

Curcumin is known for benefits including:

  • protection against both water- and fat-soluble toxins
  • reducing tissue damage and combating silent inflammation
  • preventing LDL cholesterol from becoming oxidized and damaging arteries
  • preventing arterial plaque formation
  • inhibiting the formation of blood clots by inhibiting platelet aggregation
  • protecting against age-related brain damage
  • boosts mood and memory
  • helping to protect the liver and promote detoxification
  • improves alcohol metabolism
  • improve blood sugar metabolism
  • relieving pain due to osteoarthritis
  • reducing exercise-induced oxidative stress
  • improving moisture content of skin
  • improving periodontal health

The challenge?

Curcumin is readily metabolized by the body and poorly absorbed. This is due to its large particle size and solubility. Dosages as high as 12g of curcumin have failed to significantly raise blood levels.

The Solution

Theracurmin. An all-natural curcumin preparation that utilizes advanced, all-natural techniques to reduce the particle size and increase its solubility. This makes the average particle size approximately 100 times smaller. It is then mixed with a vegetable gum which produces a colloidal suspension to increase solubility. This results in an increase of absorption of curcumin compared to all other commercial forms tested. The best part? This is achieved without the use of emulsifiers that can damage the microbiome.
