Nathan Mikaere-Wallis’ three- stage guide to a better brain:

* Health and diet: Eat a balanced diet including hemp seed oil and omega oil. Drink a glass of water an hour to hydrate the brain. Take daily exercise of 20 minutes or so to raise the heart rate.

* Social interaction: Have a rich social life. A talk in depth with someone is more beneficial than a superficial chat about the weather.

* Keep learning: Do something new. Break the daily routine. Learn for its own sake rather than aim to be the best in the world. Do crosswords and Sudoku. Become ambidextrous. Don’t retire – it is better to reduce your working hours.
