School-aged children can improve brain function simply be taking a daily multi vitamin and mineral supplement, say British researchers from Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne. In their randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled,parallel group study involving 81 healthy children between 8 and 14 years of age, supplementation with multi vitamins and minerals for a period of 12 weeks improved brain function. Specifically, children who took the multi performed better on two attention tasks. The authors conclude, "these results would seem to suggest that vitamin/mineral supplementation has the potential to improve brain function in healthy children."
