A new study suggests that smoking raises the risk of breast cancer for healthy-weight and overweight women but not for those who are obese.
Researchers had no explanation for the results, which come from an observational study of more than 75,000 women. The findings are not clear proof that weight affects smoking risk. Doctors say it also doesn’t mean smoking is safe for anyone. It raises the risk of lung cancer, heart disease and other problems.
The research was discussed Sunday at a cancer conference in Orlando, Fla.
